CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (9-4) finishes off their four-match home-stand this Friday at 2:30 p.m. when they host the Winthrop Eagles (7-2) at Patriots Point.
The Cougars will look to shake off a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Winthrop. The Cougars took an early advantage in that match by winning the doubles point, but the Camels responded by winning five of six singles encounters to take the match. Anastasia Palaska, who was the only Cougar to be victorious in singles play, has been strong for the Cougars this year with a combined 16-5 record between singles and doubles play.
CofC and Winthrop have come together to make quite the rivalry through the years. The Cougars own a 13-9 advantage against the Eagles since joining NCAA Division I back in 1992, but WU has had the edge in recent years, posting back-to-back 4-3 wins over the Cougars in 2016 and 2017.
Winthrop began the season with two losses to UNC and William & Mary, but have bounced back emphatically with seven consecutive wins heading into Friday's matchup with the Cougars. Those include wins over CAA institutions UNCW (5-2) and Elon (6-1). Lauren Proctor has been the Eagles' ace this year, owning a formidable No. 23 ranking in singles play per ITA.
Admission to all CofC home tennis matches is free of charge.
