GREENVILLE, N.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (7-10) got off to a promising start on Sunday at East Carolina, but the Pirates (19-4) surged back in singles competition to hand the Cougars the 4-1 defeat.
Juan Estevarena and Benedikt Henning continued their hot streak in doubles, defeating Freddie McGeehan and Vlad Anghel 6-1 in flight one play. Ksawery Pociej and Easton Thomas secured the point when they emerged victorious in flight two by virtue of the 6-4 win.
The Pirates claimed revenge against the two, as Pociej fell 6-0, 6-4 in flight three and Thomas dropped 6-0, 6-3 in flight six to put ECU up 2-1. Both Ryan Kahn and Youssef Dabbabi put up valiant efforts on courts four and five, but the two fell 7-5, 6-3 and 6-4, 7-5 respectively to give the Pirates the match. Henning and Estevarena were each forced to walk away from their singles encounters with the matches still unfinished.
The Cougars wrap up the regular season next Sunday when they travel to Davidson.
