CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's soccer team will open the 2018 season with a matchup against North Florida at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m.
Gates open at 6:00 p.m. with tickets priced at $6 for adults and $3 for youth (18 and under). CofC students get in free with a valid form of student ID.
On the Air
Fans can watch the season opener live on the Charleston Sports Network (online stream) beginning at 6:45 p.m., with soccer alumni Donnie Exelbierd calling the action.
Scouting North Florida
The Ospreys will be led by ASUN Preseason All-Conference selection Thais Reiss who claimed the conference Freshmen of the Year honor in 2017. The Brazil native represented her country this summer at the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup. UNF finished last season 9-6-1 overall, 3-4-0 in the ASUN, ending its season in the opening round of the conference tournament on penalty kicks.
Series History
The game will mark the fifth meeting in history between the teams (2-2) and the third regular-season matchup under head coach Christian Michner (1-1). The teams also met in an exhibition in 2015, drawing 0-0.
Last Meeting With UNF
Last season, The College ended the Ospreys five-game winning streak during the 25th Anniversary Alumni Weekend. Rachel Kim, Alyssa Beck and Ramara Barreto all got on the scoresheet in a 3-0 win with Genevieve Henderson earning the clean sheet in goal.

The College is 7-17-2 all-time in season openers dating back to the 1993 inaugural season. For the fourth-straight year, Charleston begins the year at Patriots Point (1-2).

The College has been picked to finish sixth in the Colonial Athletic Association by the league's coaches. Charleston returns 24 letterwinners, including nine starters, while adding 11 newcomers to the roster. The 2018 squad will be led by 2017 All-CAA selection Laura Ortega who led the offense last season with eight goals and five assists; good for 21 points. Ortega is nine points from the most in program history. Senior defender Maddy Brill-Edwards is a Preseason All-CAA selection alongside Ortega.
