
Rachel Powers Cougars to Sweep of Tribe

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) put down a match-high 15 kills, and Jason Kepner collected his 275th career win as the College of Charleston volleyball team combined for a .424 hitting percentage in a Sunday sweep of William & Mary in Colonial Athletic Association play at TD Arena.
College of Charleston (11-5, 2-0 CAA) won the match by scores of 25-6, 25-15, and 25-18 to register its second straight sweep to open CAA play. The Cougars finished the match with 43 kills, 41 digs, seven service aces, and six blocks, while combining for a .424 hitting percentage – the sixth-highest single-match hitting percentage in the program's rally scoring era. Charleston held William & Mary (4-6, 0-1 CAA) to 23 kills, 29 digs, two blocks, and a .047 hitting percentage.
Rachel paced the Cougar attack with a match-high 15 kills on 26 swings for a .538 hitting percentage. Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) each added eight kills with hitting percentages of .500 and .353, respectively, as Mandy Napierala (Rochester, N.Y.) put down five kills on six swings (.833).
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) dished out 32 assists to go along with three service aces, three digs, and a solo block, while McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) collected a match-high 11 digs. Freed and Rachel each finished with seven digs, as Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) chipped in six.
Julia Brown led the way for William & Mary with eight kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Katie Kemp and Autumn Brenner distributed 11 and 10 assists, respectively, as Casey Foote finished with eight digs.
The Cougars return to the court on Friday, September 28 when they travel to Newark, Del. To take on the Delaware Blue Hens in CAA action at 7:00 pm.
