CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The No. 17 (VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major Poll) College of Charleston volleyball team travels north to Newark, Del. this weekend to take on Delaware in its first match away from TD Arena in Colonial Athletic Association play. First serve is slated for 6:30 pm on Friday evening at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Series History
The Cougars boast a 13-1 all-time record against Delaware, including a pair of straight-set sweeps over the Blue Hens last season.
Scouting Delaware
Delaware enters the weekend with a 6-8 overall record, and a 0-2 mark in CAA play. The Blue Hens lead the conference in digs per set (17.38), paced by Andie Hanus' 5.12 digs per set. Maria Bellinger leads Delaware and ranks second in the CAA with 3.86 kills per set.
Leading the Pack
Devon Rachel earned her first career CAA weekly accolades on Monday after leading the Cougars to a pair of sweeps over Elon and William & Mary. The senior outside hitter averaged 4.83 kills and 2.50 digs per set while attacking at a .400 clip.
Model of Efficiency
The Cougars put together one of the most efficient offensive performances in program history last Sunday with a .424 hitting percentage against William & Mary, which ranks sixth-best on CofC's single-match list in the 25-point rally scoring era.
Rare Company
The Cougars are one of only two Division I programs with three active players in the top 50 in career kills, assists, and digs. Allison Beckman is fourth in assists, McKala Rhodes is 21st in digs, and Kennedy Madison is 35th in kills.
Cougars in the Rankings
The Cougars are ranked 17th in the VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major Poll this week, down two spots from last week. This marks five consecutive weeks in the top 20 for the Cougars, with the team's highest ranking coming at No. 12 on Aug. 27.
Offensive Onslaught
The Cougars' attack is amongst the top offensive units in the nation this season, and enters CAA play ranked in the nation's top 15 in two categories. Charleston ranks 12th in team kills (820) and 13th in team assists (768), while also entering the week ranked 47th in kills per set (13.67).
Chasing History
Head coach Jason Kepner is in his 12th year at the helm, and already ranks as the longest tenured coach in program history. Kepner's 275 career wins ranks second on the school's all-time list, trailing only Nancy Wilson's (1974-83) total of 286 victories.
