CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team hosts three teams in three days with Richmond, UMASS and Samford visiting Patriots Point March 11-13, as the Cougars continue a long home-stand in the lowcountry.

"Richmond will be a great match… Their excited to be on their spring break, they've been out here [Patriots Point] practicing, getting used to the conditions, it'll be a real challenge so we're looking forward to that… UMASS beat us the last time they were here and Samford, every match we play against them is a competitive match dating back to our old SoCon rivalry… David Vest is one of my best friends so three great coaches coming in, they all do a terrific job and it'll be fun to coach against them."
Scouting Richmond
The Spiders bring a 4-3 record to Charleston, winning three straight heading into the matchup. Richmond fell back on Jan. 22 to #23 Virginia, bouncing back for a win over Navy the following weekend. A 4-3 loss followed to the Cougars CAA rivals Delaware on Feb. 15 before the Spiders took down Towson on the road 6-1. Emily Dunbar is 4-2 in fight one singles action while Kiana Marshall is 5-1 in flight two. Historically Charleston are 1-2 against the Spiders, last facing off in a 4-3 win at Patriots Point in 2014.
Scouting UMASS
UMASS have won five straight, sporting a 7-2 overall record and a 5-2 road record. Back-to-back wins in Amherst, Mass., over LIU Brooklyn and Quinnipiac followed on from road wins over Marist and Binghamton. Most recently UMASS defeating Dartmouth on the road before facing Charleston on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Scouting Samford
The Bulldogs bring an 8-2 overall record to Patriots Point, losing their last matchup against Memphis in Birmingham, Ala. Prior to that Samford had rattled off four straight wins over UAB, Tulane, Troy and Alabama State. Grace Jennings is 8-5 in the number one singles spot, Holly Horsfall 8-2 in the four and five spots, 6-2 on court four.

Woodson's only losses in flight one this season have come against 2018 NCAA Tournament teams.
Yates is 5-1 in singles play, 4-1 in flight five and 1-0 in flight four, a lone loss coming on the road at Clemson. Yates has picked up her last three singles wins in straight sets fashion, giving up just four total matches through six sets.
The Season Opening Weekend
Charleston picked up a season opening win over USC Upstate on Jan. 18, with senior duo Turner Yates and Sarah Zschunke winning on court three to claim the doubles point. Christi Woodson, Lily Labiche and Yates all winning in straight sets on courts one, two and five to give The College a 4-3 win.
Yates strong singles action continued against Wake Forest and Clemson, the senior earning the CAA Singles Player of the Week nod after pushing No. 98 ranked Deacon Peyton Pesavento to a narrow third set loss (6-3, 2-6, 4-6), before leveling up against the Tigers Miller-Krasilnikov, 3-6, 6-1, before the match was called early.

Charleston looks to the leadership of four seniors and one junior in head coach Angelo Anastapoulo's 28th season in charge. Laura Arciniegas, 2018 All-CAA Singles Second Team selection Christi Woodson, Turner Yates and Sarah Zschunke return alongside Anastasia Palaska, Ava Turner and Catalina Medici from a 2018 squad that finished 17-11 in the CAA Semifinal round. Newcomers include sophomore Eva Nyikos, a transfer from North Florida and sister to last season's senior Helena Nyikos, alongside Clara Errard and Lily LaBiche.
