CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team are set for three matches in three days, two on the road against Colonial Athletic Association rivals, as the regular season enters the final week of action.
The Cougars hit the road for a Saturday and Sunday road swing at James Madison and Elon before returning to Patriots Point on Monday for a showdown with Tulane. First serve against the Dukes is set for 10 a.m. in Harrisonburg, Va., with Sunday's match against the Phoenix set for 1 p.m. Charleston and Tulane will also begin action at 1 p.m. on Monday.
Scouting James Madison
The Dukes saw a win streak end at four matches last Thursday with a 5-2 loss to VCU on the road. JMU had knocked off Towson, Richmond, UNC Greensboro and Elon to improve their record against CAA opponents to 2-0. The Dukes are 3-1 in Harrisonburg, Va., this season, Charleston historically unbeaten against JMU on the road with a 4-2 overall record, 4-0 in Virginia.
Scouting Elon
The Phoenix are 10-10 on the season heading into a Saturday Senior Day match with South Carolina State before facing The College on Sunday. Elon have had an up-and-down season, winning and losing no more than two matches in a row over the year with a 4-4 home record. Historically Charleston are 17-4 against Elon, but the Phoenix have won three straight dating back to 2016 with the Cougars winning every match between 1996 and 2012 (14 meetings).
Scouting Tulane
The Green Wave are 9-12 on the season, 0-5 in American Athletic Conference play, with a 1-6 road record. Tulane and Charleston have faced off twice in history with both programs picking up a win, the Cougars taking a 4-3 victory in 2014. Currently on a four match win streak, the Green Wave will face Charleston Southern on Sunday before traveling across the bridge for a Monday showdown with The College at Patriots Point.

The long home stand began with four straight wins over Davidson, Coastal Carolina, Lehigh and Gardner-Webb, the Cougars falling to Richmond and UMASS before bouncing back with three more victories. Charleston took down Samford, George Washington and Fairfield to improve to 10-7 on the year heading into the back-end of the 2019 schedule.

Christi Woodson and Anastasia Palaska were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week on Mar. 19 after a 3-0 week in the No. 1 doubles spot. In strong starts to their senior seasons, Woodson and Turner Yates have both earned CAA Singles Player of the Week honors, Woodson on Feb. 27 and Yates on Jan. 30. Woodson picked up the weekly award after going 2-0 in flight one action against CAA rivals UNCW and in-city rivals Charleston Southern. Yates is 11-3 in singles play.
The Season Opening Weekend
Charleston picked up a season opening win over USC Upstate on Jan. 18, with senior duo Turner Yates and Sarah Zschunke winning on court three to claim the doubles point. Christi Woodson, Lily Labiche and Yates all winning in straight sets on courts one, two and five to give The College a 4-3 win.
Yates strong singles action continued against Wake Forest and Clemson, the senior earning the CAA Singles Player of the Week nod after pushing No. 98 ranked Deacon Peyton Pesavento to a narrow third set loss (6-3, 2-6, 4-6), before leveling up against the Tigers Miller-Krasilnikov, 3-6, 6-1, before the match was called early.

Charleston looks to the leadership of four seniors and one junior in head coach Angelo Anastapoulo's 28th season in charge. Laura Arciniegas, 2018 All-CAA Singles Second Team selection Christi Woodson, Turner Yates and Sarah Zschunke return alongside Anastasia Palaska, Ava Turner and Catalina Medici from a 2018 squad that finished 17-11 in the CAA Semifinal round. Newcomers include sophomore Eva Nyikos, a transfer from North Florida and sister to last season's senior Helena Nyikos, alongside Clara Errard and Lily LaBiche.
