Cougars Return to Action with CAA Set Against William & Mary

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston plays its first CAA games of the season this weekend when the Cougars host William & Mary at TD Arena. The games on Saturday and Sunday both tip at 1 p.m. and admission is free.

HEAD COACH ROBIN HARMONY (17-19 in second years at CofC; 263-133 in 14 years overall)
Robin Harmony is in her second season at CofC after leading the Cougars to a 13-17 record in 2019-20, a six-win improvement over the previous season and the most wins since going 19-15 in 2013-14. The team also doubled its CAA win total from three to six, including a 73-59 victory over Drexel, one of only two CAA losses suffered by the eventual conference co-champions.
Harmony was 131-48 in six seasons at St. Thomas (Fla.) and 115-66 in six seasons at Lamar before coming to CofC. She began her coaching career as an assistant at Fairleigh Dickinson in 1987-88 and was on the staff at her alma mater, the University of Miami, from 1988-2005.
COUGARS DOWN NC CENTRAL IN LAST OUTING
CofC has not played since a 71-56 win at NC Central on December 19. The game was tied at halftime, but the backcourt trio of Tyler Collins, Tyler Gray and Chelsea Wooten combined for 36 of the Cougars' 43 second half points to give CofC its third straight win.
Collins led four Cougars in double figures with 18 points, and Gray had 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals. Both players had 13 points in the second half, and Wooten scored 10 of her 12 point after the break. Taylor Williams continued her strong play with four 3-pointers and 16 points. Zoe McCrary paced the Cougars with nine rebounds.
GRAY NAMED CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Tyler Gray was selected the CAA Rookie of the Week after her performance in the win over NC Central. She had a season-high 17 points, including 13 in the decisive second half, and added season bests for minutes played (35), field goals made (7), rebounds (7) and steals (4).
Gray has scored in double figures in four of her first six collegiate games and is averaging 16.3 points and 5.3 assists during the Cougars' current three-game winning streak.
PERKINS RETURNING TO ACTION
Junior guard Latrice Perkins is available to play for the first time since being injured late in the 2019-20 season. Perkins was on the All-CAA third team last year after leading the team and ranking ninth in the CAA with 13.5 points per game. She also paced the Cougars with 150 field goals and 53 steals and was second with a .457 field goal percentage and 50 assists.
ABOUT WILLIAM & MARY (5-6, 2-4 CAA)
The Tribe gained a split of its two home games against Drexel last weekend with a 69-53 win on Sunday. William & Mary also has a split with Hofstra and lost both games to Delaware.
Bailey Eichner had 13 points and 13 rebounds and came within two assists of a triple-double in the win over the Dragons. Sydney Wagner led the Tribe with 22 points and Bre Bellamy had 19 with the duo combining to make 17 of 28 field goal attempts.
Wagner ranks third in the CAA with an average of 20.7 points per game, and her 40 made 3-pointers are almost twice as many as anyone else in the conference. Eichner is sixth in the CAA with 7.9 rebounds per game and is tied for fourth with 12 blocked shots.
COUGARS VS. TRIBE
William & Mary holds a 16-9 lead in the all-time series and is 9-6 since CofC joined the CAA in 2013-14. The Tribe has won three in a row including 85-60 in Williamsburg and 80-74 at TD Arena last year. The last Cougar win was a 79-77 victory at TD Arena on December 8, 2019.
