GAME PREVIEW
The College of Charleston men's soccer team (0-0-1) welcomes North Carolina Wesleyan (2-1-0) to Ralph Lundy Field for its Wednesday, March 3 home opener at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The Cougars last played on their home field against Colonial Athletic Association foe James Madison on Oct. 26, 2019. They started the spring season off with a defensive battle and 0-0 draw at Jacksonville on Feb. 15 in Jacksonville, Fla.
"We are very excited to open our season at home," CofC Head Coach Keith Wiggans said. "We have worked hard to improve our fitness and continue to be strong defensively. We have two tough tests this week against North Carolina Wesleyan and Coastal Carolina (on Sunday, March 7).
"Both will be great opportunities to see where we've improved and see what we need to continue to work on. We can't wait to step on our game field and play in front of our fans – it has been a long time since we've done that."
The Battling Bishops, members of NCAA Division III, are currently on a two-game win streak with 1-0 shutouts in conference play versus Methodist on Feb. 23 and Pfeiffer on Feb. 27.
NEW LOOK AND FEEL
For the first time since the College of Charleston men's or women's soccer teams played on Ralph Lundy Field in the Fall of 2019, the USL Championship League Charleston Battery professional soccer team has called it home since March of 2020 and several upgrades have been made to the facility. The partnership between the College of Charleston and the Charleston Battery enhanced the overall experience for coaches, student-athletes, fans and the community.
GAME DAY INFORMATION
Admission is free for all College of Charleston men's soccer home games during the spring 2021 season. CofC received approval from the South Carolina Department of Commerce to welcome spectators at Patriots Point at a reduced capacity of 50 percent.
Fans are asked to help do their part to create a safe environment for all by: (1) staying home if sick or running a fever, (2) frequently washing hands, (3) using hand sanitizer and (4) maintaining physical distance from other guests.
Face coverings (over the nose and mouth) will be required as a condition of all guest entry and throughout the Patriots Point Athletic Complex, unless actively eating or drinking. Restroom capacities will be limited and hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the complex.
