RICHMOND, Va. --- Senior outfielder Donald Hansis represents the College of Charleston and its baseball program as the Cougars' nominee for the 2020-2021 Colonial Athletic Association Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year presented by Primis announced CAA officials earlier this week. As the College's nominee for the conference honor, Hansis has also been selected as CofC's Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Elon senior men's tennis player Kyle Frankel was voted as the CAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The six-time recipient of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award carries a 3.66 grade point average while studying economics and plans to pursue his Master's in business analytics at Elon after completing his undergraduate studies.
Hansis was in the midst of a tremendous first season at the College in 2020 before the campaign was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The junior transfer from Spartanburg Methodist had started 13 of 14 games while batting .289 with two doubles, 14 RBI and a team-high five home runs prior to the pause. His breakthrough performance came in the Cougar's 11-2 win at then-No. 21 Clemson when he drove in six runs with a solo homer, RBI single and a first-inning grand slam. Hansis has appeared in 25 games with 22 starts this season while clubbing three homers and driving in 10 runs.
The North Myrtle Beach, S.C. native has enjoyed success in the classroom as well carrying a 3.673 grade point average while majoring in supply chain management. He has twice been named to the CAA Honor Roll while also earning academic recognition for boasting a GPA of 3.0 or higher in three straight semesters since coming to the College.
Hansis is involved with multiple organizations off the field including serving as an administrative assistant for CarHan Inc. as well as working as a host and cook at Crab Catcher's On The Waterfront in Little River, S.C. He has participated in several volunteer opportunities during his collegiate career including reading books to local elementary school students and visiting patients at the Greenville Children's Hospital.
