
Charleston Opens Series with Win

MT PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball took game one of the weekend series over William & Mary, 9-2, Friday evening at Patriots Point.
Graduates Dylan Johnson, Reece Holbrook and Will Tippett each had two hits and scored twice in the win.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST WILLIAM & MARY:
- Scoreless through two, Charleston took a 6-0 lead in the third after putting a six-spot on the board with 12 batters coming to the plate.
- Sophomore Landon Penfield led off the frame with a 400-foot solo homer.
- The Cougars continued the early onslaught with five straight singles before a pair of sacrifice flies and an RBI groundout by Penfield.
- Freshman Carter Harrington picked up his third win of the season, allowing a lone run over 5.0 innings while striking out four before handing the ball to redshirt senior Alex Lyon.
- Lyon threw 3.2 frames, yielding one run on two hits.
- Holding a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth, Tippett and Holbrook began the frame with back-to-back doubles down the left field line.
- Redshirt senior Ethan Plyler added two more insurance runs with a two-out, two-run single through the right side to plate Holbrook and Johnson.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston improves to 35-14 against William & Mary and 19-4 at home.
- With the two-run single in the eighth, Plyler extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
- Charleston has at least 13 hits in each of the last four games and double-digit hits in seven of the last nine contests.
- With his 99th appearance, Lyon has tied Carter Love for the most appearances in school history. His 99 appearances are also sixth in CAA history.
- Tippett now has a five-game hitting streak where he's gone 10-for-17 with 10 runs scored.
- Johnson is now hitting .381 with 13 doubles in conference play.

- Charleston continues the series against William & Mary Friday for Military Appreciation Night, presented by Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
