CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston can clinch a spot in the CAA Tournament on Saturday when the Cougars visit Hofstra in their regular season finale. Kickoff at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium is 1 p.m.
The Cougars will earn a place in the six-team tournament for the first time since 2017 with a win over the Pride but can still get in with a loss or tie depending on the results of the other Saturday games. Hofstra is in third place in the CAA standings and has already wrapped up its postseason berth.
Hofstra holds a 4-1-3 lead in the series, and the teams played to a 1-1 draw last year at Patriots Point.
Charleston (5-6-5, 3-3-2 CAA) is coming off a 0-0 draw against North Florida on Tuesday to complete an undefeated season at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point. In their last CAA match, the Cougars dropped a narrow 3-2 decision at first place Elon.
The Pride (10-3-3, 4-2-2 CAA) has won five of its seven home games including three of four in the CAA. Hofstra blanked Lafayette, 4-0, on Tuesday behind a hat trick by Oliver Svalander and played to a 2-2 tie at Drexel last Saturday.
Hofstra's Eliot Goldthorp (13) and Ryan Carmichael (9) are the top two goal scorers in the conference while Chris Elliott is tied for third with eight. Svalander has six goals and six assists, one more than Leonardo D'Ambrosio.
