CHARLESTON, S.C. –
College of Charleston scored three runs in its final two at bats, including the game-winning single by Mia Dittoe in the eighth, in a 5-4 win over Western Carolina on day two of the Cougar Classic at Patriots Point.

Tied at 4 in the bottom of the eighth, Aniz Roman was placed at second, moved to third on a sacrifice by Chloe Valdez and scored when Dittoe grounded a single into left to give the Cougars their second walk-off win of the weekend. Charleston also defeated Appalachian State in its final at bat on Friday.

Charleston trailed 4-2 in the seventh when Noel Dominguez drew a two-out walk and scored on a double by Jenna Helberg. One batter later, Carsten Puckett singled to center to drive in Helberg and force extra innings.

McKenna Kelly pitched 4.2 innings in relief and allowed only one run while striking out four to pick up her second win of the season.

"I'm proud of the fight we have shown this weekend," said head coach Tracey Lynch. "We are learning with each opportunity we get to compete and fight for the teammate to the left and right. Seeing a different person step up is exciting! We have a long season ahead, and we are continuing to grow together as a team."

The Cougars dropped their first game of the day, 6-1, to Appalachian State. Puckett produced the lone run of the game for Charleston with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

The Cougars wrap up play in their final home tournament of the season with a rematch against Western on Sunday at 1:30.
