
Cougars Run Past UNCW, 87-56, Behind Four in Double-Figures

Eady becomes CofC's All-Time Rebounder in D1 Era
WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The College of Charleston women's basketball team (15-12, 7-9) ran past UNCW in Wilmington on Sunday afternoon, 87-56, behind a balanced scoring effort.
Senior forward Arynn Eady continues to write her name in the CofC record books. On Sunday, Eady became the program's top rebounder in its division-one era. The senior from Atlanta has 849 rebounds to her name, passing Breanna Bolden's (2013-2017) 845 career boards.
With the win, the College of Charleston clinched a winning record in regular season play. The Cougars have not finished with a winning record since the 2013-14 season, when the Cougars went 19-15 and 9-7 in the CAA.
The Cougars now have 15 wins on the year, tied for the fifth-most in a season since the program joined the division-one ranks.
First Half
- UNCW got off to a fast start and grabbed a quick 5-0 lead, but the Cougars made four straight field goals to go on a 10-0 run and take a 10-5 advantage and force a UNCW timeout
- The run extended to 15-0 before a UNCW layup ended it
- After one, the Cougars led 23-13. Charleston shot 5-of-9 from beyond-the-arc in the opening quarter
- Jenna Annecchiarico did a little bit of everything in the first period, tallying six points, three rebounds, and three assists
- The Seahawks scored the first three points of the second quarter, but CofC hit back with an 8-0 surge to take a 31-16 lead with just under 5:00 to go in the half
- After a jumper by Latrice Perkins extended the Cougars' lead to 42-25, UNCW scored twice in the final 10 seconds of the half to cut the deficit to 42-29 at the break
- Latrice Perkins led the Cougars with 14 points and six boards in the first half, while Annecchiarico added nine points and six assists and Anika McGarity pitched in eight first half points
- Charleston out rebounded the Seahawks 24-11 in the first half
Second Half
- The Cougars and Seahawks traded baskets for the first half of the third quarter. With 5:29 to play in the third, Charleston led 51-38
- The Seahawks were able to hang around for much of the third, but the Cougars ended the period on an 8-2 run to carry a 62-45 advantage into the fourth quarter
- After three, the Cougars already had four players with more than 12 points. Charleston shot 50 percent from the field in the third period
- Charleston started the fourth quarter on an 13-3 run to extend its lead to 27 points at 75-48 with 6:20 to go in the contest
- The Cougars would outscore the Seahawls 12-8 the rest of the way, emptying the bench on its way to an 87-56 road victory
- The Cougars outscored UNCW 25-11 in the fourth quarter and 45-27 in the second half
Team Stats
- The Cougars had four players with more than 14 points, including two with 20 or more. It's the first time the Cougars have had two players with more than 20 points since January 21st at Delaware
- The Cougars dominated the boards, 44-32, including a 30-19 edge on the defensive glass
- Charleston shot 49 percent (31-for-63) from the field and 37 percent from three (11-for-30)
- CofC has shot above 47 percent from the field ten times this season. The Cougars are 10-0 in those games
- CofC also posted a 93 percent (14-for-15) day at the foul line
Key Cougars
- Latrice Perkins posted her first double-double of the season, with season highs in points (24) and rebounds (11)
- Arynn Eady secured her 12th double-double of the season on Sunday, scoring 16 points and hauling in 11 boards
- Jenna Annecchiarico stuffed the stat sheet again, scoring 20 points to go along with a season-high nine assists and five rebounds
- Anika McGarity knocked down four threes on her way to 14 points
- Grace Abercrombie knocked down three triples on her way to nine points
