CHARLESTON, S.C. – A pair of old rivals get together again Tuesday night when Georgia Southern visits Ralph Lundy Field for a 7 p.m. match.
Tuesday will be a Fall Sports Rewards game for students. The first 50 students will receive a CofC branded luggage tag, and Uber vouchers will be provided for travel to Patriots Point. The match will also have an International Night theme.
The Cougars and Eagles were longtime Southern Conference foes before heading off in new directions. The teams met every season as SoCon opponents between 1998-2012 but only twice since then, most recently a 3-0 Georgia Southern win in Statesboro two years ago.
Overall the Cougars own a 17-5-1 lead in the series, but the Eagles have won the last four.
Charleston is looking to turn things around after losing four in a row including a 1-0 setback to Stony Brook on Saturday in its last outing. Georgia Southern is 1-5-5 against a schedule that includes the top three teams in the most recent United Soccer Coaches national poll.
The Eagles lost to top-ranked Marshall and No. 2 UCF in their last two games. They also played to a 0-0 draw at then-No. 2 and current No. 3 West Virginia on September 22.
