2/15/2024 1:02:00 PM

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston hits the road for the first time this season when the Cougars play five games at the Bubly Invitational beginning Friday morning in Gainesville, Fla.

Charleston faces Georgia Southern to open the weekend before taking on Loyola Chicago and host Florida twice each. The Gators are ranked in the Top 20 in every major Division I softball poll. See schedule with live stats and audio links below.

The Cougars won their final two games of the Charleston Invitational last weekend. Halle Cannon homered and drove in five runs in an 11-3 victory over Cleveland State, and Brooke Marquez went deep and knocked in three in a 5-3 win over Saint Joseph's.

Five Cougars are batting over .300 led by Shealyn Starks at .412. Cannon has six RBI while Marquez and Malaka Belser are tied for the team lead with five runs scored. Belser provided the game-winning hit with an RBI double against Saint Joseph's.

In the circle, reigning CAA Rookie of the Year Caroline Conner worked 4.2 shutout innings over two appearances and picked up the win against the Hawks. Payton Lemire went the distance and gave up only one earned run in defeating the Vikings.

Friday will mark the 79th game against former Southern Conference rival Georgia Southern, and the Eagles hold a 49-29 advantage in the series. The Cougars have faced Florida and Loyola one time each, losing to the Gators in Gainesville in 2008 and the Ramblers at home in 2015.
