CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston baseball will begin its 2024 season series with Charleston Southern tomorrow at Patriots Point. This will be the first of three midweek meetings with the Bucs this season with a game at CSU and one more at Patriots scheduled in April. The two programs faced off just once last season with the Cougars winning 8-0 at Patriots. In total, the Cougars lead the all-time series 60-17 with the Bucs last win coming in 2019.Â
Last Time Out
Charleston enters the contest off a series win over Penn last weekend. Originally scheduled for four games, the series was changed to three due to weather on Saturday. In game one of the series, Charleston came from behind to win. Down 5-1 in the 5th, the Cougars scored seven times to take an 8-5 lead. Charleston would go on to win the contest 11-5. In game two, the Cougars took control in the 2nd inning after a
Luke Wood homer sparked a four-run rally. Up 6-4 in the 7th,
Cole Singsank blasted his second homer of the season to extend the lead in a 7-4 win. Singsank homered again in game three to put the Cougars up 5-3 but a three run, two out 9th inning rally swung the game to Penn.Â
Scouting the Bucs
Charleston Southern enters the game with a 7-9 record. The Bucs started the season with series wins over Delaware State and Lehigh before dropping two of three with Rutgers. CSU also lost two midweek games with The Citadel in between those series. Last week, the Bucs hosted Penn for two midweek games, splitting the pair with the Quakers. Over the weekend, CSU traveled to preseason Southern Conference favorites Samford. After a rain-out on Friday, the Bucs dropped both games of a Saturday double header. CSU picked up the win in game three of the series 12-7 after jumping out to an early 11-1 lead.Â
The Bucs offense has gotten off to a solid start this season with four players hitting over .300. Cade Conway leads the team, hitting .418 with nine stolen bases. Chandler Tuupo is right behind at .412 while also leading the team in doubles (6), RBI (18) and is tied in homers with Dakota Miller on four.Â
