Women's Soccer Victorious in Home Opener

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston women's soccer scored three goals over a seven-minute span in the first half to defeat South Carolina State, 7-0, Thursday evening at Patriots Point.
Redshirt sophomore Caroline Fowlkes opened the scoring for the Cougars, receiving the pass into the middle of the box from redshirt junior Faith Slimmer, finding the back of the net for the first time in her career at 32:47.
Charleston continued its offensive surge when sophomore Shea Vidovic scored 15 seconds later, her first of two goals in the half. Vidovic stormed into the top of the box to collect the loose ball, securing her second career brace in the 40th minute.
The Cougars added to their advantage in the second half, scoring in the 56th and 62nd minutes off the foots of Emma Wennar and Bubbles Dever, respectively.
Vidovic earned her first career hattrick with a goal in the 79th minute, after a foul in the box earned the Cougars a penalty shot.
Charleston outshot South Carolina State 30-2, improving to 5-0 against the Bulldogs all-time. The trio of Savannah Barron, Katie Carrino and Ainsley Chunn combined for the clean sheet.
The Cougars will return to action on Sunday, August 18 at 2:00 p.m. to take on Presbyterian on the road.
