
Callahan Earns CAA Offensive Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – College of Charleston middle blocker Caitlyn Callahan was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week.
The graduate student was dominant for the Cougars this week, posting 42 kills, 21 total blocks (five solo blocks) and a .534 attacking percentage while recording just three attack errors across the four matches and 14 sets. For the week, the Wellsboro, Pa., native averaged 3.00 kills/set and 1.50 blocks/set and had two matches without a single attack error.
Callahan earned MVP honors at the CofC Invitational after tallying 38 kills, 19 blocks and a .530 attacking percentage, while recording double-digit kills in all three contests. Against Middle Tennessee, the middle blocker had 15 kills and tied her career-high with nine total blocks. In the fourth set alone, Callahan had six kills and a pair of block assists.
This is Callahan's first career weekly award and second straight week Charleston has earned a CAA honor. Defensive specialist Tynley Smeltzer earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week following her outing at the CofC Classic.
The Cougars host Charleston Southern Tuesday, Sept. 17 for a 6 p.m. match inside TD Arena. The contest will serve as the team's hometown hero appreciation game.
