MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston defeated Rhode Island, 5-3, before losing to Ohio, 15-2, in its final two games of the Lowcountry Classic at Patriots Point.
Game 1
- Kendall Thackston tossed a complete game and allowed only four hits for her second win of the season.
- Charleston rallied from a 2-0 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the third.
- Kaytlin Stacey singled in two runs to tie it, and the lead runs came across on a two-RBI infield single by Kennedy Rhue.
- The Cougars added an insurance run in the sixth when Audri Bates singled and scored on a base hit by Jay Wrightsman and a throwing error.
- Rhue and Wrightsman both had two hits to pace the Cougar offense.
- Brooke Tranum starred defensively at third base, first when she snagged a line drive to strand a pair of Rhode Island runners in scoring position in the third.
- Tranum then started a 5-3 double play after the first two Rams reached in the sixth.
Game 2
- Charleston jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second without the benefit of a base hit.
- The Cougars scored on a suicide squeeze by Leela Langston and RBI ground out by Tranum.
- It stayed that way until Ohio scored a run in the fourth before going in front with four in the fifth.
- Tranum and Wrightsman had the two hits for the Cougars.

The Cougars are on the road for the first time this season next weekend at the Dugout Club Classic hosted by Florida State. Charleston opens the tournament against Mercer and Florida Gulf Coast on Friday.
