MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston earned a sweep of its first CAA series of the season with 10-2 and 7-1 victories over Hampton at Patriots Point.
Karlee Hughes was 6-for-6 in the doubleheader with three runs scored and three RBI and went 8-for-9 in the series to raise her batting average to a team-leading .333.
Game 1
The Cougars banged out 13 hits and scored in all but one inning to clinch the series win.
Karlee Hughes matched her career high with three hits and drove in two runs.
Austy Miller also had two RBI, and
Jay Wrightsman had two hits, stole two bases and crossed the plate three times.
Mackenzie Mathis went the distance and allowed five hits while striking out six.
Charleston opened up a 5-0 lead with a run in the first and four more in the third.
RBI singles by Hughes and
Leela Langston in the sixth invoked the run rule.
The Cougars scored three of their runs on sacrifice flies by Miller,
Kaytlin Stacey and
Bricelyn Bedenbaugh.
Game 2
Hughes had her second three-hit game of the day, including a double, scored three times and had three steals.
Miller joined Hughes with three hits and drove in a run with a triple in the fourth.
Langston had two RBI on the strength of a bunt single in the second and triple in the third.
Ryley Kutter pitched a complete game four-hitter and fanned four.

The Cougars play a doubleheader at South Carolina State on Wednesday at 1 p.m. before returning to Patriots Point for a CAA series against UNCW next weekend.Â
