CHARLESTON, S.C.- The College of Charleston men's soccer team fell short in their home opener at Patriots Point against South Carolina, 3-2.
After a scoreless first frame, the Gamecocks got on the board with a goal in the 71
st minute to take the lead. Charleston found the answer in the 75
th minute when a pass from
Pavel Dashin found the feet of
Ben Bagshaw for the finish to even the score.
South Carolina quickly regained the lead just 30 seconds after kickoff, followed by another in the 83
rd minute for the game-winning goal.
Charleston's
Hogan Walker narrowed the lead down to one with a brace from outside of the box with five minutes to play, but the comeback fell short.
Bagshaw led the attack with six shots and his first career goal in a Cougar jersey. Walker also tallied his first career goal with his late game finish.
The Cougars outshot South Carolina 11-7 in the second half while
Charlie Duske tallied two saves on the night. Five Cougars made their debut in a Charleston jersey, including
Issaka Salifu who earned the starting nod and played all 90 minutes of the matchup.
CofC will return to action on Monday, August 25 facing Davidson in their first road match of the season. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. in Davidson, N.C.
