Kevin Nichols concluded his fifth season as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator with the College of Charleston baseball program in the spring of 2022. Nichols also serves as the program’s hitting and base running coach as well as the third base coach.
 
2022 (Overall Record: 37-20, CAA: 19-3)
  • Captured the program’s second CAA regular season championship with a 19-3 mark in league play
  • Led the CAA in runs (383), hits (523), RBI (340) and walks (260)
  • The Cougars equaled a program-record with 14 All-CAA selections including first-team selections William Privette, JT Marr and Ty Good
  • Freshman Tyler Sorrentino was named CAA Co-Rookie of the Year and was also honored as a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American
  • Marr was named a semifinalist for the Buster Posey Award
  • Cam Dean, Joseph Mershon, Sam Cochrane, Trotter Harlan and Sorrentino were each named to the All-CAA Second Team
  • Sorrentino and Daniel Brooks were selected to the CAA All-Rookie Team
  • Defeated No. 2 Texas, 8-4, on March 15 for the program’s third-ever win over a top-two team
  • Posted a series win over perennial regional participant East Carolina (Mar. 18-20)
  • Equaled the program-record for home winning percentage (.833), finishing 25-5 at Patriots Point
  • Finished the regular season undefeated at home in league play for the first time in program history
2021 (Overall Record: 27-25, CAA: 12-12)
  • Team ranked seventh nationally in both double plays (50) and double plays per game (0.96)
  • Senior outfielder Harrison Hawkins was named to the All-CAA First Team after leading the CAA with 54 RBI
  • Jared Kirven, Joseph Mershon, Tanner Steffy and Trey Pooser were each honored on the All-CAA Second Team
  • Mershon and Pooser both collected CAA All-Rookie Team recognition as well
  • Team established two single-season records for both team (8) and individual (3, Harrison Hawkins) grand slams
  • Team finished third at the CAA Championship with wins over Towson, William & Mary and Elon
  • Defeated Clemson in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history with a 13-6 win in Clemson on April 13
  • Team set 10 program CAA Tournament records including new team marks for games played, runs, hits, home runs, RBI and total bases
  • Steffy established three program CAA Tournament records for hits, RBI and total bases
2020 (Overall Record: 12-2, CAA: N/A)
  • Team ranked seventh nationally in earned run average (2.13), 11th in winning percentage (0.857) and 21st in WHIP (1.11)
  • Did not lose a series including sweeps of Iona, Youngstown State and Evansville
  • Defeated No. 21 Clemson, 11-2, in Clemson on Mar. 4
  • Batted .291 as a team with eight home runs and 84 RBI
  • Senior first baseman Ari Sechopoulos batted .360 with two home runs and 20 RBI in 14 games
  • Junior outfielder led the team with five home runs while batting .289 with 14 RBI
2019 (Overall Record: 36-21, CAA: 16-8)
  • Team ranked 10th in the nation in stolen bases (118)
  • Dupree Hart selected in the 26th round of the MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals
  • Luke Manzo named CofC’s second consecutive CAA Defensive Player of the Year
  • Four All-CAA First Team selections including Manzo, Hart and Danny Wondrack
  • Chaz Davey named to All-CAA Third Team
  • Team led the CAA in nearly every offensive category including batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and home runs
  • Hart ranked eighth nationally in stolen bases (40)
  • Wondrack led the CAA in home runs (15) and slugging percentage (.593)
  • 20 comeback victories
  • Four wins over ranked opponents
  • Season sweep of rival Coastal Carolina
2018 (Overall Record: 36-19, CAA: 15-8)
  • Tied a single-season program record with seven shutouts
  • Luke Morgan selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 20th round of the MLB Draft
  • Dupree Hart named CAA Defensive Player of the Year
  • Hart and Morgan selected to All-CAA First Team
  • Four Cougars named to All-CAA Second Team including Danny Wondrack, Bradley Dixon, Carter Love and Sisk
  • Logan McRae selected to All-CAA Third Team
  • Went 6-1 against Power-Five schools including a series sweep of Georgia
  • Posted back-to-back shutouts to open a series at Kansas State
  • Blanked South Carolina, 9-0, in Coach Holbrook’s return to Columbia
Head coach, Erskine College (2000-2017)
  • Spent 18 seasons as the head coach at NCAA Division II Erskine College
  • Finished his tenure as the winningest coach in program history with 588 career wins
  • Led the Flying Fleet to three 40-win seasons and a pair of NCAA Finals
  • Erskine was consistently ranked in the top-30 nationally including a program-best No. 2 ranking in 2015
  • Mentored 100 all-conference performers, 33 all-region selections, 12 All-Americans and two National Players of the Year
  • 35 players signed professional contracts during his tenure
  • Three former players currently hold NCAA career records – Bryan Fogle in home runs, RBI and total bases), Chas Anthony (doubles) and Shelton Cisson (hits)
  • Mentored two players (Atlee Pearson and Jake Williams) that each broke the NCAA career saves record before it was surpassed in 2017)
Playing Career
  • Drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 28th round of the 1996 MLB Draft
  • Spent three seasons in the Phillies organization
  • Played at the University of Alabama from 1994-96
  • Batted .287 with 13 home runs and 43 RBI in 1994

  • He and his wife, Kristy, have three children: one daughter, Libby (19), and two sons, Brick (17) and Jax (15)
