Before Charleston: The Downers Grove, Ill., native spent her freshman and senior seasons with the Downers Grove Trojan soccer team while focusing most of her soccer efforts on the club level. She started for the Trojans both seasons and was named an all-sectional, all-conference, and all-academic selection for her school. Rounce also ran track at Downers Grove and anchored the 4x4 relay team which broke the school record, contributing to her receipt of the Trojan Pride Award, as voted on by her peers. The center midfielder played her club soccer with Team Chicago Academy (2011-14), which she captained, and led to a Denmark Championship –first place in the Brondby Cup (Denmark, 2013) – as well as a runner-up finish at Nationals in Baltimore, Md., in 2014. Additionally, she captained the Illinois state ODP team in 2011 after being a member of the squad since 2008.
Head Coach Christian Michner on Rounce: "We are so excited that Mary has joined us down here in Charleston,” said Michner. “She is a fantastic player who just brings a different dimension to our program. Mary is a player who we recruited pretty hard out of high school and knew that she would come in here and make a major impact for us both on and off the field." She's a smart, technical and strong midfield player who strengthens our group. Our staff and players are happy she is with us."
Rounce on joining CofC: ”I loved CofC when I attended summer soccer camp a few years ago,” said Rounce. “The school, the soccer program, and the coaches were exactly what I wanted in a college experience. However, when I received the offer from Michigan State, I felt that I should take the opportunity to be at a Big Ten. But, after the first few days I was there, I knew I made a mistake that I didn’t go with my first choice. I made some wonderful friends at MSU, but the huge school was not for me. I am so grateful that I am transferring to my number-one choice and I can’t wait to make some great friends, play some great soccer, and get a great educational experience.”
