Alexis Lowes enters her first season as an assistant coach with the Cougars following a four-year playing career at the College of Charleston that featured four straight Southern Conference regular season titles and three Southern Conference Tournament championships.
“I am very excited to add Alexis to our staff” said head coach Jason Kepner. “She was a great player and such a big part of this program’s success over the past few years. She has a good head for the game and a love for the sport, the College, and City of Charleston. I am looking forward to working with her and know she will have a great impact on this year’s team.”
A native of Claremont, Ontario, Lowes played in 99 matches for the Cougars as an outside hitter, finishing with 785 digs and 195 kills during her career. She also posted a career best 3.06 digs per game in 2005 and a total of 274 digs as a senior in 2006 and averaged 0.23 service aces per game for her career.
In addition to the skills honed throughout her playing career, Lowes also brings a great deal of championship level experience to the program. During her four years at the College of Charleston, the Cougars compiled an astounding 113-22 overall record and 67-3 mark in Conference play and claimed a total of seven Southern Conference titles, four regular season and three tournament, and earned three NCAA Tournament berths.
CofC’s three consecutive tournament championships during that span represents the only time in Southern Conference volleyball history that a team has accomplished the feat while the three straight regular season titles is only the second time in league history. Chattanooga (1996-98) is the only other team to claim three straight regular season crowns in the 25-year history of volleyball in the Southern Conference.
In 2005, Charleston again became a pioneer in the conference as the Cougars became the first Southern Conference school to win a match in the NCAA tournament, defeating North Carolina 3-1 to advance to the second round.
