CofC Earns Victory over Johns Hopkins, 74-42

Sophomore Nikki Williams' game-high 16 points and freshman Brooke Kotcella's career-high 12 rebounds lifted the College of Charleston's women's basketball team to a victory over Johns Hopkins, 74-42, before 364 fans at the John Kresse Arena on Wednesday evening.
The victory improves CofC's record to 6-7, while the loss drops Johns Hopkins to 5-4.
In the first half, CofC shot 45.2 percent from the field, while Johns Hopkins shot 22.7 percent. CofC was also able to score 16 points in the paint and gain 24 points off of Hopkins' turnovers in the half. The Cougars held a 16-4 lead with 11 minutes left in the first half before going on an 18-7 run to take a 34-11 lead going into halftime.
Both teams improved their shooting percentages in the second half, with CofC shooting 50.0 percent (16-32), while Johns Hopkins shot 45.5 percent (10-22).
For the game, CofC shot a season-high 47.6 percent from the field, including making five out of 18 three-pointers. Johns Hopkins shot 34.1 percent from the field and converted on five out of 15 three-point field goal attempts. CofC also grabbed more rebounds than Johns Hopkins, 41-26. Both teams were able to gain a significant amount of steals, with Charleston gained 22 and Hopkins grabbing 16.
Freshmen Erica Williams and Deidra Jones each scored 12 points for the Cougars. Whitney Davis led Hopkins in scoring with eight points and three steals. Julie Miller also scored seven points with six rebounds for the Bluejays.
The Cougars return to action on Jan. 6 in a SoCon game against Wofford in Spartanburg, S.C. beginning at 3 p.m.
