Beliveau Pitches CofC Past George Mason, 9-3

Jeff Beliveau pitched seven strong innings with eight strikeouts and Alex Garabedian drove in the go-ahead run with a third inning double leading the College of Charleston to a 9-3 win over George Mason in college baseball action before 211 at Patriots Point Field on Friday.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 5-1 on the season while the Patriots fell to 1-3. Beliveau (1-0) allowed just six hits and two runs with two walks. He surrendered only a second inning two-run homer to right field by Jason Bour that gave GMU a 2-0 lead. Charleston scored six times in the third to take the lead for good at 6-2. Garabedian rifled a double down the left field line that scored Chris Campbell from third base for a 3-2 lead. Michael Harrington's two-run double to center gave the Cougars a 5-2 lead and Michael Kohn scored on a wild pitch to cap the inning. The Cougars used George Mason's second error of the night to score twice in the fifth inning when Kohn and Campbell raced home on a two-out throwing error. Kohn's RBI double to right in the seventh scored Garabedian for a 9-2 Cougar advantage. Chris Fournier, who doubled leading off the eighth for GMU, eventually scored on a throwing error for the final margin. Mike Modica (1-1) suffered the loss allowing eight runs, only two earned, on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings of work. Charleston Mitch Besselievre allowed an unearned run over the final two innings. The Cougars play host to Cleveland State in a noon start on Saturday. George Mason plays at Charleston Southern at 1:00.
