Record Day Lifts CofC Past GMU, 23-9

The College of Charleston banged out a school record 28 hits and belted four homers en route to a 23-9 win over George Mason in college baseball action before 279 at windy Patriots Point Field on Sunday.
Gabe Marchant's second homer of the season, a two-run blast to center in the second inning, gave
Michael Harrington led off the bottom of the third with a towering homer to right that gave the Cougars a 7-1 lead. It was Harrington's second homer of the year and it cleared a group of tall trees far beyond the right field fence. Oliver Marmol, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI and a school record tying five runs scored, hit a three-run homer to left in the seventh that extended
Harrington finished with three hits, Maiden had three hits and Clay McCord added three hits and four runs scored in five trips to the plate. Ben Lasater had two doubles and four runs batted in.
Chris Fournier led the Patriots with two hits and three RBI.
Michael Bunton (1-0) was the winner working the first seven innings with seven strikeouts and only one walk. Bunton surrendered only five hits and a run through the first 6 2/3 innings before tiring. Ryan Brecko (0-1), the first of six GMU pitchers in the game, suffered the loss.
