Jake Goldberg pitched eight strong innings and Oliver Marmol belted a solo homer pacing the College of Charleston to a 14-1 win over Savannah State before 128 in college baseball action at Grayson Stadium on Tuesday.
Win the win, Charleston's fourth in a row, the Cougars improved to 8-1 on the season. The Tigers fell to 8-7. The Cougars open a three-game series with Stony Brook on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
Goldberg (2-0), a junior, worked a career-high eight innings with three strikeouts. He blanked the Tigers on just two hits and a walk. James Mack (1-2) suffered the loss surrendering nine runs, five earned, on 12 hits over seven innings.
Marmol highlighted the Cougars' three-run first inning with a leadoff homer down the left field line, his second of the season. Marmol finished 3-for-4 at the plate to pace the Cougars' 20-hit attack.
Charleston's Gabe Marchant had three hits and two RBI, while teammates Ben Lasater, Clay McCord and Michael Harrington added two hits each.
For the Tigers, Brandon Javis had a pair of hits including a ninth inning solo homer, his third of the season.
