Bradford Eaves and Keith Munns homered and Wofford snapped a 15-game losing streak to the College of Charleston with an 8-5 win over the Cougars in Southern Conference baseball action before 280 at Russell King Field on Saturday.
Wofford improved to 17-12 overall and 1-4 in league play. The Cougars fell to 19-8 and 4-1. The rubber game of the series is Sunday at 1:00.
Eaves erased a 1-0 Charleston lead in the bottom of the first with a solo homer to left, his third of the season, that tied the game at 1-1.
Wofford stretched its lead to 3-1 in the second on RBI doubles by Adam Wood and Emre Caglayan. Wood's two-out, bases loaded single in the third gave the Terriers a 5-1 lead.
Charleston's Alex Garabedian cut the margin to 5-3 in the top of the fourth with a two-run homer to center, his third of the season. Munns hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth that extended the Terriers' lead to 7-3. It was his third homer of the season.
Chris Campbell had an RBI double and Michael Harrington a run-producing grounder in the seventh that cut the lead to 7-5. Wofford added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI double by Mike Gilmartin.
Ben Austin (7-2) picked up the win surrendering four runs, three earned, on four hits with six walks in six innings of work. Charles Vartanian allowed a run on four hits over the final three innings for his first save. Jeff Beliveau (2-1) suffered the loss.
Eaves finished with three hits in four at bats while Wood and Caglayan added two hits each. Wood had a game-high three runs batted in. Harrington and Garabedian had two hits each for Charleston.
