Goldberg, Haywood Lift CofC Past Stony Brook, 4-1

Jake Goldberg pitched seven strong innings and Stuart Haywood drove in a pair of runs as the College of Charleston completed a three-game weekend series sweep of Stony Brook, 4-1, in college baseball action before 207 at Patriots Point Field on Sunday.
Charleston, which plays host to South Carolina in a 6:00 start at Joe Riley Park on Tuesday, improved to 11-1 on the season. Stony Brook fell to 0-6.
Goldberg (3-0) allowed a run on just five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. He allowed no runs on just a hit over his final 5 2/3 innings of work. Kurt Jung (0-2) was the tough-luck loser surrrendering four runs on nine hits over 7 1/3 innings.
Mike Lynn blanked Stony Brook over the final two frames to earn Charleston's first save of the spring. He inherited a bases loaded, no outs situation in the eighth with the Cougars nursing a 3-1 lead. Lynn worked out of the jam by striking out Michael Tansey and getting Robert Leonard to bounce into a 1-2-3 double play.
The Seawolves got a two-out RBI single from Michael Tansey in the first inning that scored Brian Witkowski for a 1-0 lead.
Charleston tied it with one out in the second when Michael Harrington lined his third homer of the season over the right field fence. Ben Lasater followed with a double and scored when Haywood bounced a base hit to right field for a 2-1 CofC lead.
Haywood lined an RBI single to center in the fourth that plated Michael Kohn for a 3-1 Charleston lead. Chris Campbell tripled with one out in the Charleston eighth and scored on Jed Cordisco's bunt single to third with two outs for the final margin.
