James Keithley drove in three runs and Greg Sillivent knocked in the go-ahead run with an eighth inning single leading Texas-San Antonio to a 6-4 win over 30th-ranked College of Charleston before 117 at Nelson Wolff Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The Roadrunners improved to 5-9 with the win, their eighth consecutive victory at Wolff Stadium. The Cougars, who are 12-2, had their eight-game winning streak snapped.
Sillivent's one-out single in the eighth caromed off the wall and scored Trent Lockwood for a 4-3 UTSA lead. Lockwood led off the eighth with a sharp single to center, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and reached third on an infield hit by Zach Etheredge.
Keithley capped the inning with a two-out, two-run single to center that scored Ryan Rummel and Marshal Davis for a 6-3 Roadrunner advantage.
The Cougars, who grabbed an early 1-0 lead on Ben Lasater's solo homer to left center in the second, scored twice in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 3-all. Lasater's two-out bases loaded walk scored Chris Campbell to cut the lead to 3-2.
Michael Kohn's single to left scored Garabedian to tie the game at 3-all, but Michael Harrington was thrown out at the plate to end the threat setting up the decisive bottom of the eighth.
J.T. Mackey (2-1) picked up the win in relief despite allowing a run on three hits in an inning of work. Josh Blakley picked up his first save. Mike Lynn (0-1) suffered the loss surrendering three runs on a walk and four hits in 2/3 innings of work.
Game two of the series is set for 3:00 eastern time on Saturday.
