
Harrington Homers Twice In 14-9 Win Over GSU

Michael Harrington hit a pair of homers and drove in five runs and Russ Tomlinson pitched 5 1/3 strong innings leading 27th-ranked College of Charleston to a 14-9 win over Georgia Southern in the rubber game of its three-game Southern Conference series before 1,202 at J.I. Clements Stadium on Sunday.
Charleston improved to 27-9 overall and 10-2 in league play. GSU is 20-20 and 3-9.
Harrington hit a first inning three-run homer to right for a 3-0 lead. His two-run homer to right in the fourth gave the Cougars a 9-6 advantage. Both of Harrington's blast were tap measure shots.
Charleston's Alex Garabedian added his fifth homer of the season, a three-run shot to center, that capped a five-run fourth and gave the Cougars a 12-6 lead.
Stuart Haywood's solo homer to right leading off the fifth inning, his first of the season, extended Charleston's lead to 13-6. Graham Maiden added a two-out, run-scoring single in the ninth for the final margin.
Chris Campbell, who had 10 RBI in four games during the week, and Garabedian finished with four hits each to pace Charleston's 22-hit attack. The Cougars, who got three hits from Ben Lasater and Haywood, also collected 24 hits in Friday night's 19-6 over the Eagles.
GSU got four hits from Griffin Benedict and three hits in three at bats from Jeremiah Parker.
Tomlinson (4-1) picked up the win in relief allowing only three runs on just four hits with four strikeouts. Drew Murray (3-5) suffered the loss surrendering seven runs, six earned, in just 2 2/3 innings of work.
The Cougars play host to Savannah State in a 6:00 start on Tuesday.
