
No. 33 Virginia Tech Downs College of Charleston in Men?s Tennis

CHARLESTON, S.C. College of Charleston men's tennis fell 7-0 to a nationally ranked Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon at Patriots Point Tennis Center.
The No. 33 Hokies (6-1) jumped out to an early lead by sweeping the doubles matches. CAA Player of the Week Vasily Kichigin and junior Garrett Gordon kept their match against Joao Monteiro and Florian Nicoud close at the No. 3 spot, losing by just two games, 8-6.
In singles action, top-seeded sophomore Rodrigo Encinas took the 73rd-ranked player in the country by surprise when he defeated him in the first set 6-1. Andreas Bjerrehus regained his composure and won the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 to pick up the win.
Kichigin also gave his opponent some trouble at the No. 4 spot, pushing Hokie Edoardo Tessaro to a tiebreak in the second set. Tessaro eventually won the match 6-4, 7-6(1). Junior Zack Lewis also made his opponent go the extra mile to win his match, ceding a 7-5, 7-5 decision to fifth-seeded Florian Nicoud.
The Cougars (4-3) are back in action on Sunday, March 1 when they travel to Baltimore to battle Coppin State in a 2 p.m. matchup.
