MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (3-5-2; 1-1-2 vs. CAA) took a much-needed point off of a tough conference rival Wednesday night, playing the (RV) UNCW Seahawks (6-2-2; 1-0-2 vs. CAA) to a 1-1 draw.
• For the second time this season and second game in a row, Nicolas Jeausseran scored a critical goal for the Cougars. In the 59thh minute, Nico Rittmeyer passed the ball from left of the keeper to the top of the box, where the waiting Jeausseran took control of the ball and shot it low and away to beat Ryan Cretens and put the College out front.
• Jeausseran, Rittmeyer and Eli Dent accounted for all seven of the Cougars' seven shots on goal. Dent had the most-spectacular attempt of the game in the first half, connecting on a bicycle kick that had to be saved by the UNCW keeper. Cretens and CofC keeper Kevin Shields posted identical stat lines of six saves and one goal against.
• 15 minutes after the Cougars took the lead, the Seahawks responded by way of a Stian Sandbekkhaug goal from deep in the box.
"I'm a little disappointed that we didn't get the win, but on the other hand my players fought the whole match," head coach Ralph Lundy said. "We dominated the first half and I wish that we'd knocked another one in, but then they came on strong in the last 20 minutes and in overtime. This league is dog-eat-dog, and it was a tough game."
The Cougars will return to action Saturday when they travel to Delaware to play the Blue Hens (8-4-1; 3-2 vs. CAA) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
