TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – The College of Charleston baseball team dropped Sunday's rubber game against No. 10 Florida State, 11-2, at Dick Howser Stadium.
The Seminoles (5-1) opened with three runs in the first inning and never looked back taking advantage of several CofC defensive mistakes leading to four unearned runs. Bradley Jones got the Cougars on the board in the third with a solo home run. Dupree Hart scored the team's second run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Danny Wondrack.
CofC (3-3) loaded the bases in the first and had the tying run on base in the fifth, but double plays ended both threats. FSU turned three double plays in the game. Jake Maziar continued to swing a hot bat as he finished 2-for-4.
MOMENT THAT MATTERED
After giving up three runs in the first inning, College of Charleston starter Hayden McCutcheon settled down and kept the Cougars in the game. McCutcheon allowed just two hits over the next three innings before being replaced in the fifth.
TURNING POINT
Florida State pulled away with a three-run fifth inning. The Cougars pulled within two in the third on Bradley Jones' home run, but two errors cost CofC a chance on escaping the fifth with minimal damage.
