CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (2-2) hosts a double-header at Patriots Point this Saturday, and will square off against CAA-rival William & Mary (4-5) at 10 a.m. before taking on Savannah State (0-8) at 2:30 p.m.
The Cougars come off a 6-1 home-win against Coastal Carolina last week. CofC grabbed the doubles point 2-1, before winning three straight singles sets to secure the day up 4-0. Liza Fieldsend, Rachel McNeely, Mara Argyriou and Anastasia Palaska all picked up wins in both singles and doubles play, while Helena Nyikos grabbed a singles win as well.
William & Mary is the reigning CAA Champion in women's tennis, but the Cougars very nearly spoiled their run in the semifinals last season. The Tribe won the doubles point, but CofC responded with wins in all three of the top singles flights, including Liza Fieldsend scoring a win over No. 108 ranked Elizaveta Nemchinov in flight one. Nonetheless, W&M escaped with the 4-3 victory. Lauren Goodman is undefeated in the No. 3 singles slot for the Tribe, while Ekaterina Stepanova leads the team from the top flight.
Savannah State has struggled mightily this season, and only have two individual match victories on the season, both coming in the 4-2 loss to NC A&T. The Tigers are on a 38-match losing streak that dates back to 2015.
