Cougars Finish Up at Home Against Blue Hens on Senior Day
2/25/2017 7:43:00 PM | Women's Basketball
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (9-18, 6-10) plays its final home-game of the season Sunday at 2 p.m., when it will take on the Delaware Blue Hens (14-13, 8-8) and honor the squad's upper-classmen for Senior Day.
Nola Henry, Courtney Gardner and Breanna Bolden will all be acknowledged prior to the game as the three seniors on the team. Henry has played two years for the College after transferring from UMass, and has drawn the start at point guard in 56 games while logging over 170 assists and 170 rebounds. Gardner is a four-year letter-winner for the program with 92 games played and 224 rebounds. Bolden leads the group as one of the greatest players in program-history, holding the All-Time career steals record with over 330 takeaways and standing fifth on the CofC All-Time scoring list with over 1600 points.
The Cougars will look to bounce back from a 86-75 loss to Northeastern on Friday, where Bolden registered a season-high 28 points and Bri Sullivan chipped in a career-best 11. Despite handily winning the turnover battle, the Cougars couldn't halt a great shooting night from the Huskies, as NU finished 58% from the field.
The two teams will meet for the ninth time on record, with UD holding the 6-2 edge in the series. The Blue Hens have won the last for contests, including one earlier in the year up in Newark. Despite a 23-9 from Bolden and a 10-13 with 8 steals from Tanisha Brown, the Cougars fell 71-66 to Delaware thanks to big nights from Nicole Enabosi and Erika Brown.
The Blue Hens were 7-3 in conference play as recently as three weeks ago, but they've hit a rough patch since then, losing five of their last six and their last three straight. They come off a pair of road losses to Northeastern and Drexel, as well as a home defeat to Elon on Friday.
Enabosi leads the Blue Hens with 13.6 points per game to go with 2.2 assists and 44 steals on the year. She's also ranked No. 2 in the CAA in rebounding at 9.9 per game. Makeda Nicholas is a threat on the interior with 47 blocks on the year, while Brown averages 11.8 points and 2.1 assists.
