Cougars Return to Lowcountry to Host Pride and Blue Hens This Weekend
1/4/2018 7:18:00 PM | Women's Basketball
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's basketball team (5-8) will look for their second and third CAA wins of the year this weekend, as they are set to host both Hofstra (6-7, 0-2) and Delaware (7-5, 0-1) at home in TD Arena this weekend.
The Cougars will host the Pride at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night, and admission will be free of charge for that contest due to the harsh winter weather that's gripped the Lowcountry over the last few days. CofC will then host the Blue Hens on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The College split its opening weekend of conference competition, falling at home to William & Mary before rallying on the road to defeat Towson 80-67. In their tilt against the Tigers, the Cougars scored 28 points in the first quarter to blow the game wide open and set a program-record for most points scored in an opening quarter. Deja Ford played in her home-state, and had a career-afternoon with highs in scoring (20 Pts) and rebounding (7 Reb). Tanisha Brown meanwhile registered the 16th double-double of her career with a 20-10 performance.
The Cougars split games with the Pride last season, with each team winning at home. The Blue Hens meanwhile won both encounters last season, and own a 7-2 all-time mark against the College. CofC is 3-5 all-time against Hofstra.
The Pride have dropped three of their previous four contests, including their opening two conference tilts against Drexel and James Madison. The team is led by senior forward Ashunae Durant, who averages a 12-9, and over a block and a steal per contest. Olivia Askin's 2.3 three-pointers per game meanwhile ranks third in the conference. The Pride is led by Krista Kilburn-Steveskey, who is in her 12th season at the helm of the program.
Delaware lost its conference-opener on the road at Drexel, but had won five out of six prior to that, including a three-game winning streak heading into conference play. Nicole Enabosi is the team's premier player, as the junior forward leads the CAA in scoring (20.2 PPG), rebounding (12.5 RPG) and field goal percentage (57.9%).
The Blue Hens' visit to the Lowcountry will be a homecoming for multiple members of their coaching staff. Head coach Natasha Adair is in her first season in charge of the Delaware program, and will return to Charleston after leading the team for two years from 2012 to 2014. Associate Head Coach Bob Clark meanwhile comes back to the Holy City after spending five years in the maroon and white from 2012 to 2017, also in an associate head coaching position.
Tickets are still available for Sunday's tilt by visiting CofCSports.com/Tickets, or by calling (843) 953-COFC. Admission to Friday's game is free of charge.
