CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team close out a two-game homestand with a Saturday afternoon matchup against in-state rivals South Carolina State. The Lady Bulldogs dropped their season opener on the road at Radford, while The College defeated North Greenville to open the year as Charleston look to move to 2-0 for the first time under head coach Candice M. Jackson.

SCOUTING SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
• The Lady Bulldogs opened the year with a 61-31 road loss at Radford, ending the game with a 20% FG.
• Jakayvea Akins and Kemoni Jenkins led S.C. State with 9 points apiece with Taylor Brown adding 7 points and 8 boards.
• Audra Smith takes over the Bulldog program after arriving from Clemson, where she spent five years as the Tigers' head coach.
• South Carolina State finished 12-17 (6-10 MEAC) last season. Senior guard Kemoni Jenkins is the leading returning scorer at 10.0 ppg. while senior forward Kyesha Lewis added 9.5 ppg. (41 3's).
• South Carolina State was picked 11th in the preseason MEAC Poll by the coaches and sports information directors. The Lady Bulldogs return seven (7) veterans and welcomes six (6) newcomers to the squad this upcoming season.

"I'd like to see a better defensive showing from us… we've been working on getting some things getting tightened up on our defensive principles and concepts and I think that the girls are ready to do it. I'd love to see us put up a lot of points again and I think that's going to come from our transition game… I just want to see us continue to share the ball, I want to continue see our freshman really come alive… South Carolina State is offering something different in the fact that they like to move, like to play at a faster pace, and we need that… We need to see what we're up against as we work on our transition offense and defense, we gotta know what we're up against… This will be a really good test for us and it'll be tough."

• The College opened the year with a dominating but balanced display; a 95-62 victory over NCAA Division II North Greenville.
• Senior guard Darien Huff and junior guard Deja Ford both had 19 points, Huff opening the game on her very own 8-0 run.
• In her first game for Charleston, Tyler Collins added 9 points, dishing out 12 assists to finish a point shy of a double-double, while Madison Taylor added 16 from the bench, 8 in the first half and 8 in the second.
• Redshirt freshman Ericka Broughton brought power from the bench, adding 11 points and grabbing 7 boards with Bri Sullivan also grabbing 8.
• Arynn Eady started at forward, adding another 9 rebounds and 6 points.
IN THE RECORD BOOKS
• In Charleston's opening night victory, they entered a number of top-ten historical categories.
• The 95 points by the offense are tied for the sixth most in a single game in program history while the 13 three-pointers made are tied for the second most in a single game.
• The 28 points in the third quarter are tied for the 5th most.

• Five true freshman and one redshirt freshman saw game-time in the season opener.
• Tyler Collins and Arynn Eady started in the point guard and forward roles respectively.
