
McLarty, Cougars Blitz Blue Hens, 11-2, To Clinch Series

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- Griffin McLarty (Buckner, Ky.) struck out a career-high 12 batters, Danny Wondrack (Wall, N.J.) drove in four runs, and Tommy Richter (Wayne, Pa.) went 4-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the College of Charleston Baseball team to an 11-2 win over Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association play on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, College of Charleston (29-15, 11-6 CAA) remains in second-place in the CAA standings behind Northeastern by 1.5 games. Prior to first pitch, the Cougars honored their 2018 senior class featuring Zach Banks (Greenville, S.C.), Riley Knudsen (Cabot, Ark.), Cameron Garrett (Charleston, S.C.), Will Detwiler (Camden, S.C.), Richter, Justin Baker (Huntersville, N.C.), Luke Morgan (New Lenox, Ill.), Carter Love (Charlotte, N.C.), and student assistant coach Blake Butler.
The Cougars pushed across 11 runs on 12 hits, including five doubles, while limiting Delaware (22-19, 7-7 CAA) to three singles and a two-run home run. Richter paced the offense with a 4-for-4 effort, driving in two runs and scoring three more. Wondrack plated four with a bases-clearing double and a sac fly, while Bradley Dixon (Greenwood, S.C.) went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.) added two hits and two runs as Morgan scored twice and plated another run.
McLarty delivered one of his best starts of the season, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out a career-high 12 batters in seven and two-thirds innings of work. Baker came out of the bullpen and spun one and one-third scoreless frames to close out the victory.
Jordan Hutchins provided the only offense for Delaware with a two-run home run in the fourth, as three other Blue Hens each collected a single. Billy Sullivan IV got the start and took the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits in three and two-thirds innings. Joey Haass surrendered three runs – two earned – in an inning and one-third, as Clay Conaway and Matt Ryan combined to allow one run on two hits in three frames.
The Cougars and Blue Hens will meet in the series finale tomorrow afternoon at Patriots Point. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
