Cougars Fall To Elon, Delaware In CAA Tournament Thursday

HARRISONBURG, Va. --- The third-seeded College of Charleston baseball team fell to No. 2 seed Elon, 3-2, in a 12-inning heartbreaker on Thursday afternoon before No. 5 Delaware stifled the Cougar bats, 5-1, in an elimination game in the evening session to end The College's run in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship.
College of Charleston falls to 36-19 on the season after going 1-2 in the CAA Tournament following a 10-3 opening round win over No. 6 Hofstra on Wednesday.
Elon 3, College of Charleston 2 (12)
The Cougars and Phoenix engaged in a grueling 12-inning battle in the second game of the day, with Elon edging The College by a score of 3-2 on a walk-off single by Matt Oldham. Luke Manzo went 3-for-5 for the Cougars, while Ari Sechopoulos (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) provided the offense with a two-run homer in the second inning.
Griffin McLarty (Buckner, Ky.) pitched the first three innings for Charleston, allowing one run on five hits and striking out four. Carter Love (Charlotte, N.C.) allowed one unearned run on five hits and struck out four in six and one-third innings in his program-record 99th career appearance at The College. Nathan Ocker (Middletown, Pa.) surrendered one run on two hits and one walk in one and two-third frames to take the loss.
Oldham paced the Phoenix with a 3-for-6 day, driving in two runs, while Ryne Ogren picked up one RBI. Joe Satterfield and Josh Broughton each collected two base knocks as Elon stranded 17 base runners in the contest.
Kyle Brnovich allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out six, and walked two in eight and two-thirds innings for the Phoenix. Robbie Welhaf threw three and one-third scoreless innings and struck out three to earn the win.

The Blue Hens struck early with three runs in the second and held Charleston to two hits with runners on base en route to a 5-1 win in the second elimination game of the week. Delaware plated five runs on 10 hits, while limiting the Cougars to one tally on five base knocks.
Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.) drove in the lone Cougar run with an RBI single in the ninth, as Clay Hunt (Fort Mill, S.C.), Danny Wondrack (Wall, N.J.), Luke Stageberg (Greer, S.C.), Tommy Richter (Wayne, Pa.) each picked up one hit. For Richter, he became the 12th player in program history to reach the 200-hit mark – in his 200th career game – with a fifth-inning single.
Jakob Frishmuth (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) battled through five and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits and striking out three to take the loss. Justin Baker (Huntersville, N.C.) pitched the final three and one-third, retiring all 10 batters he faced and striking out four.
Zach Miller went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored to pace the Blue Hens, while Kyle Baker and Kevin Mohollen each drove in one run. Baker and Calvin Scott both collected two hits, as Diaz Nardo scored two runs.
