CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team returns to the familiar confines of TD Arena this weekend to open Colonial Athletic Association play against Elon and William & Mary. The Cougars will face Elon on Friday evening at 7:00 pm, and William & Mary on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
Weekend Preview
The Cougars return home to TD Arena to open Colonial Athletic Association play against Elon and William & Mary. Charleston enters the weekend having won seven of its last eight following a pair of victories over Liberty at the Pitt Invite last weekend. The Cougars own a 25-1 all-time record against Elon, and a 10-1 overall mark against William & Mary.
Scouting Elon
Elon enters the weekend with an 8-3 record following the conclusion of non-conference play. The Phoenix rank first in the CAA and sixth in the nation with a .132 opponent hitting percentage. Kam Terry paces the conference with 4.28 kills per set, while Maddie Jaudon leads the defense with 4.44 digs per frame.
Scouting William & Mary
The Tribe carries a 4-5 record into conference play following a pair of victories over Savannah State and Norfolk State at the Colonial Classic. Claire Farrell and Kate Dedrick pace the William & Mary attack with 2.61 and 2.48 kills per set, respectively, while Casey Foote leads the defense with 3.27 digs per frame.
Cougars In the Rankings
For the second week in a row, the Cougars are ranked 15th in the VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major Poll. This marks four consecutive weeks in the top 20 for the Cougars, with the team's highest ranking coming at No. 12 on Aug. 27.
Offensive Onslaught
The Cougars' attack is amongst the top offensive units in the nation this season, and enters CAA play ranked in the nation's top 10 in two categories. Charleston ranks seventh in team kills (731) and ninth in team assists (689), while also entering the week ranked 34th in total digs (809).
Climbing The Ladder
Senior Allison Beckman has continued her rise through the program's all-time assists list this season, and with a personal four-set best 57 assists last Saturday against Liberty, became the fourth player in program history to reach the 4,000-assist mark. Beckman currently sits 205 assists shy of tying Kaycie Carr (2002-05) for third all-time.
Diggin' Her Way to the Top
McKala Rhodes climbed two spots on the program's all-time digs list in a matter of minutes during last Saturday's win over Liberty, leapfrogging into third with a 13-dig performance. The senior libero now stands at 1,609 digs for her career and ranks third on CofC's all-time list in both total digs and digs per set (3.98).
Joining the Elite
Senior Devon Rachel became the 18th player in program history to join the 1,000-kill club last Saturday with a match-high 21 kills in the Cougars' 3-1 win over Liberty. The Louisville, Ky. native is also closing in on the far more exclusive 1,000-kill, 1,000-dig club with a current career dig total of 914.
