CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston women's tennis team returns home to the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point tomorrow to host regional rival Georgia Southern in its first home match of the season. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
The Cougars
Charleston opened the 2021 season with a hard-fought match at Clemson last Sunday, falling to the Tigers by a score of 6-1 despite taking a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point. The duos of Eva Nyikos/Kate Earnhardt and Slade Coetzee/Elizabeth Nowak posted wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively to start the match strong. Peyton Broztman pushed her opponent to a first-set tiebreak before falling 7-6, 6-4 in the final flight as Clemson bounced back with a single's sweep to claim the match victory.
Quotable – Head Coach Angelo Anastopoulo
"Last year's match was an exciting 4-3 victory in Statesboro. Knowing Coach Sean as the great motivator and coach he is, I'm sure he will have his talented team ready for revenge. We are thrilled for our home opener and I'm sure the match itself will be another thriller."
Scouting Georgia Southern
The Eagles fell to Charleston Southern, 4-3, in their season opener on Saturday despite several strong performances. Paula Boixader, Charlotte Van Diemen and Mila Hartig each delivered a victory in singles play while Paula Hijos pushed her opponent to a third-set tiebreaker in the fourth flight. Georgia Southern finished the 2020 season with a 9-4 record following the COVID-19 shutdown. The Eagles advanced to the Sun Belt Championship match for the first time in program history in 2019.
