CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston lost to Eastern Kentucky by scores of 7-1 and 13-3 on Saturday at Patriots Point in its first action of the 2021 campaign.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston lost to Eastern Kentucky by scores of 7-1 and 13-3 on Saturday at Patriots Point in its first action of the 2021 campaign.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the opener on an RBI single by Shealyn Starks in her first collegiate at bat. Kylie Burke made the narrow advantage hold up until the Colonels rallied in the seventh to tie it on a two-out double by Jasmine Miller.
EKU (1-2) then erupted for six runs in the eighth against the CofC bullpen, including a three-run homer by Mollie Paulick that broke the game open.
Burke went the first seven innings, allowing only three hits and fanning seven. The senior right hander had a strikeout in each of the first six frames in the longest outing of her career.
The Colonels owned the nightcap, building a 6-0 lead through four innings. CofC broke through in the fifth on a run-scoring single by Noel Dominguez and added two more in the sixth when Riley Miller doubled in a pair.
Jenna Helberg had two hits in the second game and a team-high three in the doubleheader.
The Cougars play again at Patriots Point on Sunday with a pair of contests against Cleveland State beginning at noon.
