Cougars Head to Appalachian State as Road Trip Continues

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston will travel to Appalachian State for its second road contest of the season on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.

The Cougars are coming off of a 2-1 loss at Costal Carolina. CofC has played two overtime contests through its first four games, including a 2OT draw with Georgia Southern. Appalachian State is off to a 2-0-1 start after picking up home victories over UNC-Asheville and USC-Upstate, as well as playing Winthrop to a 2-2 draw.

Cougars Staying Aggressive
•    CofC has outshot its opponents 67 to 41 to start the season
•    The Cougars put up 26 shots in its season opening draw with Georgia Southern
•    Charleston also put up 16 shots to Kennesaw State's 10 and 17 to Coastal Carolina's 9 in its last two outings

Holton Climbing in the Record Books
•   Senior goalkeeper Meredith Holton moved into 8th all-time in career saves at the College of Charleston
•   Holton's 14 saves through four games ranks second in the CAA

A Game of Firsts
•    Jenna Snead and Emmie Wannemacher were inserted into the starting lineup at Coastal Carolina, the first career start for both players
•    Freshman Delaney Dawes scored her first career goal in the 28th minute against the Chanticleers

About the Mountaineers
•    Appalachian State has scored at least two goals in each of its three matches this season, with seven total goals
•    Carly Lentz and Breckyn Monteith lead App State with two goals apiece, with all four goals coming in the last two contests
•    Opponents of the Mountaineers have only attempted 19 shots for 6.3 shots per game
•    ASU is coming off a 6-11-2 season and searching for its first winning campaign since 2016

Series History
•    As members of the Southern Conference, the College of Charleston and Appalachian State met on the pitch each year from 1998 until 2012. 
•    The two programs have not squared off since that final meeting in 2012. CofC moved to the CAA in 2013 and App State joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2014. 
•    The Cougars own a 10-4-4 series record over the Mountaineers
