Bailey Reaches 500 Kill Mark as Cougars Fall in Five

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Gabi Bailey recorded her 500th career kill as the Cougars fell in five sets to visiting Delaware on Sunday, October 2 at TD Arena.

Delaware (9-4, 5-0 CAA) won the match 23-25, 25-27, 29-27, 25-21 15-11 for the reverse sweep over CofC (7-9, 2-1 CAA). The Blue Hens recorded 81 total kills compared to the Cougars 66. Delaware also posted 11 blocks while CofC added eight.

Critical Point
The Cougars had match point twice in the third set at 24-23 and 25-24 and held off a set point at 26-27 on an Anna Smith kill but ultimately fell 29-27 on back-to-back kills from Delaware's Lani Mason,  who totaled a whopping 38 on the day.

Key Cougars
  • Bailey posted her 500th career kill in the second set on a shot off the Blue Hen block. The senior recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs while adding 5 blocks.
  • Smith led CofC with 15 kills while Claire Campbell and Logan Pope each added nine.
  • Tynley Smeltzer controlled the back line with 25 digs, her second most in a match this season.
  • Setter Emma Appleman joined Bailey with a double-double with 30 assists and ten digs.
Match Notes
  • Both teams entered the game undefeated in conference play. Those remaining undefeated in CAA play are Delaware, Towson and Hofstra.
