11/22/2022 4:43:00 PM

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston plays the second of a three-game road stretch Wednesday when the Cougars visit Gardner-Webb in the first meeting between the two programs. Tip at Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, N.C., is at 3 p.m.

The date with the Runnin' Bulldogs is the first of three against Big South opponents in a span of 17 days. The Cougars visit Radford on November 30 and host Charleston Southern on December 4. It is also the second of six foes that Charleston will be playing for the first time in women's basketball this season.

The Cougars (1-2) are coming off an 82-72 loss at Tarleton on Friday despite big scoring nights from Jada Logan and Jaila Roberts. Logan established a career high with 28 points while Roberts exploded for 22 after being held to six in Charleston's first two games.

Logan is off to a hot start in her first season as a Cougar after transferring from USC Upstate, averaging 22.7 points per game to rank third in the CAA and 19th in the nation. She is connecting on 52.8 percent of her field goal attempts (28-of-53) and is eighth in the conference in that department.

The Cougars are playing their customary strong defense, ranking among the national leaders in several team categories. They are 14th in the country in turnovers forced (25.7 per game), 12th in turnover margin (+10.3) and 42nd in steals (12.0 per game).

Gardner-Webb has won three in a row after a season-opening loss to Clemson. The Runnin' Bulldogs defeated Georgia Southern, 82-78, at home on Saturday behind double-doubles from Jhessyka Williams (18 points, 15 rebounds) and Alasia Smith (17 and 12).

Smith also had 14 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and three blocked shots in a 90-57 win at Furman to earn Big South Player of the Week honors. Smith is averaging 15.0 ppg and is one of three Runnin' Bulldogs in the top five in the conference in scoring along with Williams (16.8) and Lauren Bevis (15.5).
