Northeastern Takes Weekend Opener Saturday

BOSTON, Mass. --- Northeastern took advantage of efficient play to take the first of two pivotal CAA matches against the College of Charleston Saturday by a 3-0 margin (25-22, 25-18, 25-14).
Lexi Wierzbicki and Anna Smith paced the Cougar attack once again finishing with double digit kills (11 and 10) but the home Huskies used 10 aces and 10 blocks to create enough separation over the first two sets before a 9-0 run in the third put Northeastern ahead for good.

Match Notes
- Lexi Wierzbicki led the Cougars in kills with 11 while adding five digs and a block. It was an efficient afternoon for the graduate outside hitter as she led the Cougars with a .474 attack percentage putting down 11 kills on just 19 swings. Saturday was the ninth time Wierzbicki has paced the Cougars in kills and third-straight dating back to last weekend's sweep of Elon.
- Anna Smith added 10 kills and a block joining Wierzbicki in double figures. It marked the 13th time the junior outside hitter reached double figures this season.
- Saturday's loss snapped a two-match win streak over the Huskies that saw a pair of sweeps inside TD Arena last season.
- Tynley Smeltzer led the Cougar backline with 13 digs, surpassing 900 in her career (908).
