Charleston Clinches Tournament Spot in Sweep of Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. --- College of Charleston volleyball dominated from start to finish Saturday evening and clinched their spot in the 2023 CAA Volleyball Championship next week sweeping away Hampton 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-19).
Charleston hit a season-high .421 including a .516 mark in the opening set and .556 in the second. Anna Smith led the way with 14 kills on just 22 swings (.545 attack percentage), Lexi Wierzbicki added another double-double (10 kills, 12 digs) and the Cougar defense held Hampton to just .163 thanks to 55 digs and five blocks.
Olivia Mae Van Der Werff added eight kills on just 13 swings (.615 swing percentage), Morgan Cobb put down six in the third set alone and Tynley Smeltzer led the backline with 14 digs and team-high three service aces.
Hampton was led offensively by Kristine Teivane's 11 kills.

Charleston ends the regular season Sunday at Hampton with seeding still up for grabs in the CAA Tournament. A win with some help can solidify the No. 4 seed for Charleston. The Cougars can finish no lower than fifth.
